8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
Today the Hostess House at 28 Quincy street, which has been operated for the sailors of the Naval Radio School during their stay here, will be officially opened for members of the University. All students, are invited to come to the house any time during the day, and refreshments will be served during the evening.
The Hostess House was first in Phillips Brooks House, but was moved to the Speakers Club during the period in which the S. A. T. C. was here. At that time, it was greatly patronized by members of the military units at the University. After the signing of the armistice, the Hostess House was continued for men of the Radio School at 28 Quincy street.
The same women who ran the Hostess House during the war period, are in charge of the canteen which opens today: There will be magazines, newspapers, and a piano for the use of guests, as well as facilities for ironing and mending. The kitchen may be used for candy making, and other cooking.
If the Hostess House is successful, plans will be made to continue it next fall and to make it permanent. In that case, the work will be taken over by the Student Council who will provide similar arrangements in the Union.
