UNIVERSITY AVIATORS TO COMPETE IN AERO RACES

The Aeronautical Society of the University has announced that it will place entries in both the military and naval races of the Intercollegiate Aerial Tournament to be held at Atlantic City this May and throughout the summer. The contests are under the auspices of the Aero Club of America and the Aerial League of America. Their purpose is "to enable the hundreds of thousands of college men who have been in the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps Air Service to continue their training in aeronautics, both as a measure of national preparedness and as a means of facilitating their remaining in the aeronautic movement."

The first races will be the Intercollegiate Seaplane Speed Race over a five-mile course for the $2,000 Intercollegiate Trophy, and the handicap Dirigible Speed Contest for the Aerial League of America silver trophy. These contests will be open to graduates and undergraduates whether in civil or military life. The first race will be held on Saturday, May 3.

Three Months' Tournament.

A few weeks later the three months' Intercollegiate Seaplane Tournament will begin. Races will be held every Saturday between the entries of the various colleges, each institution being allowed three entries. Many members of the University have been prominent in aviation during the war, and among the men who might be chosen to represent the University at the meets are the following: D. Campbell '17, D. Gregg '18, J. Lavalle '18, W. W. McCleod '19, C. D. Murray '19, T. G. Ames '20, G. Crompton '20, C. R. Steedman '20, and T. Hitchcock '22.
