The Phillips Brooks House Association has decided to postpone the annual old clothes and text-book collection until the second week in April. This decision was reached in consideration of a similar drive to be conducted throughout New England under the auspices of the New England Chapter of the American Red Cross Association during the last week in March. Since the Red Cross Drive is to have very much the same aim as the Phillips Brooks House Collection, it was thought wiser to postpone the latter for two weeks.
The old clothes collection will be conducted under the direction of the Treasurer of Phillips Brooks House. Canvassers will be appointed by him and will be assigned to the various dormitories of the college. Trucks will be provided to take away the clothes and text books.
By holding this campaign for clothes and books almost directly after vacation instead of before it, the Committee hopes it will be larger than usual.
Uniforms and Equipment Desired.
Contrary to previous announcements, it has been decided that uniforms and other military equipment, as well as old clothes and text books will be accepted. Special emphasis is to be laid on the collection of text books this year. These will not be given to charity, but will be put in the Phillips Brooks House Text Book Loan Library, where students may borrow them for the nominal sum of ten cents per year.
The charities to which the old clothes that are collected will be turned over are the Italian Relief, the Swiss Relief, the Associated Charities of Boston, and the Associated Charities of Cambridge. These organizations will distribute the clothes among the poor of their communities.
