The last practice before the Christmas recess for the Freshman hockey players was held yesterday on the Charles River. About 20 men turned up and were put through elementary practice by W. D. Burden '22 who had charge of the squad. During the first part of the afternoon passing and shooting occupied the yearlings but later the squad was divided up into backs and forwards, and defensive and offensive work was tried. All men were watched closely, as with the small size of the squad it will be necessary to pick the tentative team with great care.
After the recess, scrimmage practice will be begun in earnest under the direction of L. M. Lombard '17, the new Freshman hockey coach, in preparation for the first game which will come soon after college re-opens. More candidates are still needed and may report with the squad in January. If the Charlesbank rinks are available practice will probably be held there.
