Hugh Walpole, the distinguished British novelist, will speak in the Living Room of the Union on Thursday, November 13, at 8 o'clock. Members of the Union are fortunate in being able to listen to this celebrated writer, who will speak on "College Men as Novelists," drawing much of his subject matter from his own experience at Cambridge University.
In 1914 Mr. Walpole was appointed King's Messenger to Russia, where he assisted in putting before the public the aims and objects of the British Empire during the world war. He served in this capacity until 1916, and it was through his experiences there that he gained the material that the later embodied in his novels, "The Dark Forest," and "The Secret City."
The Advocate is planning to give Mr. Walpole a dinner in the Advocate Building before he speaks at the Union.
