W. J. MURRAY CHOSEN TO CAPTAIN ELEVEN

William James Murray Occ., of Natick, was unanimously elected captain of the University football team at a meeting of all members of the first squad held at the Varsity Club yesterday. Murray gained most of his football experience at Andover, where he played on the academy team in 1912 and 1913, captaining the eleven in his last year. Murray is also a baseball player, having been a member of the Andover nine for two years.

At Harvard Murray played on both his Freshman football and baseball teams. The next two years he was on the University football squad, acting as regular quarterback in 1916, when his ability to lead the team and his splendid running marked him as a great player.

He was interrupted for a time in his football career by the outbreak of the war. At that time he became an Ensign in the Navy, and was a member of the staff of Admiral H. P. Jones, commander of the Cruiser and Transport Force. The ship Murray was on, the S. S. Santiago, went down on July 19, 1918.
