Dr. Richard P. Strong, Professor of Tropical Medicine at the Harvard Medical School, sailed yesterday on the Mauretania for Europe, where he is to be General Medical Director of the League of Red Cross Societies, with headquarters in Geneva.
The League is a new international association of the Red Cross Societies of the nations of the world. It will act as a centralized agency for the improvements of public health, the prevention of disease and the mitigation of suffering throughout the world. It will also serve in cases of national or international disaster. Another of its purposes is to promote the welfare of mankind by furnishing a medium for bringing within the reach of all the people the benefits to be derived from present known facts, new contributions to science and medical knowledge and their application.
Mr. Henry P. Davidson is the chairman of the Board of Governors of the League, and the Director General of the League is Lieutenant General Sir David Henderson of Great Britain. The public health work and general medical activities of the League will be under the direction of Dr. Strong.
