Plans for an interclass debating tournament to take place on November 14, have been formulated by the University Debating Council. According to the tentative schedule the Freshmen will meet the Sophomores and the Juniors will meet the Seniors in the preliminary round of the tournament on the same night; November 10. The places of meeting and the subject for all the debates will be announced early next week. Silver cups will be awarded to the winning team.
The call for candidates will be issued November 5. The aspirants will prepare on the assigned subject, and each will speak five minutes on either side of the subject at the try-outs. The successful candidates will immediately begin preparing for the team debating.
At the meeting of the Debating Council, plans were also made, subject to the approval of the faculty, for a fall University debate with Dartmouth and a fall Freshman debate with a neighboring preparatory school. A great attempt will be made to institute a program that will last continuously from the first of November to April, when the season will end with a University triangular debate with Princeton at Cambridge and with Yale at New Haven.
