Lieutenant George Crompton '20, addressed the first meeting of the Aeronautical Society in Weld 2 last night. The Society is planning to purchase an aeroplane from the government very soon, and will then give instruction in flying to its members. Lieutenants D. Gregg '18 and T. C. Cabot '19, both of whom have been in the aviation service this past year, will have charge of this instruction.
There were only 20 old members at last night's meeting. It was voted to hold the semi-annual elections in two weeks.
It was also decided to petition the Faculty to offer at least one course in practical aeronautics this next year. Most of the leading universities of Europe have already started similar courses and the question is being considered by many American universities.
Membership in the Aeronautical Society is open to all students of the University, and any men who are interested in aviation and would like to join should leave their names at Weld 2 any time within the next week. The members of the Society have opportunity to make trips to various aeroplane factories, hear many interesting lectures on aeronautics, and use the Society's glider. The annual membership fee is $2.
