YALE WANTS THAMES REGATTA

Yale is anxious to resume the annual Thames regatta with the University this year on a pre-war basis, according to Professor Mather Abbott, faculty director of rowing at Yale. "I hope that the report regarding the decision made by Harvard is true," said Professor Abbott, when asked to express his opinion upon the recent recommendation of the University Rowing Committee. He commented further:

"At a meeting last December it was decided to approach Harvard in regard to the resumption of the annual regatta at New London. If the report of Harvard's acceptance of our proposal is true, we may expect that pre-war rowing relations will be resumed with our ancient rival.

"It is not to be expected that this year will see as good rowing as the university usually turns out. We believe, however, that Harvard is in the same situation, and deeply regret the fact that Richard Emmet, their stroke, is unable to row."

Dispatches from Princeton indicate that the rowing management desires to inaugurate an annual triangular regatta between Princeton, Yale, and the University instead of the usual dual events. If this movement is approved by the representatives of the other two universities it will be one of the most radical athletic innovations of recent years.

Fifty-nine candidates have reported for the university crew at Princeton, five of them members of last year's eight. Practice is being held daily on the machines under the supervision of Coach Fitzpatrick.
