DUFFY TO CALL CANDIDATES FOR NINE ON FEBRUARY 11

NO SOUTHERN TRIP

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

It was announced by the H. A. A. yesterday that Coach Hugh Duffy will probably issue the first call for baseball candidates on February 11. The schedule has not yet been arranged but will be announced within the next two weeks.

No Southern trip will be made this year. It is planned, therefore to concentrate the work of the first few weeks on battery practice. Last year's informal and Freshman teams will supply good material. R. E. Gross '19, captain of the Informals last year, has returned to College. Other men from the same team who have likewise returned are R. P. Hallowell '20, L. B. Evans '20, T. H. Gammack '20, and J. G. Coolidge '20.

All but three of last year's Freshman team are back in College. C. B. Butterfield and A. B. Blair, both heavy hitters will be valuable material for the University team. T. J. Meehan's clever work in the infield which was a feature of 1921's team, will also be a strong factor this year.

In spite of this good material, a successful season is by no means certain. One year of no baseball, and one year of "Informals," do not tend to produce a winning team; but Coach Duffy can be trusted to develop such a nine if it is a possibility.
