MILITARY COMMITTEE URGES PROGRAM FOR UNIVERSITY

The Harvard Committee on Military Science and Tactics, appointed by the Board of Overseers, held its first meeting of the year at the Harvard Club yesterday noon. There were present: Langdon Marvin' '98, chairman; Major-General Leonard Wood, M.D. '84; Colonel Arthur Woods '92, Aviation Section Signal Corps; Eliot Wadsworth '98, Acting Chairman of American Red Cross; President S. N. Hollis, of Worcester Polytechnic School, Hon. '99; President H. S. Dunber, of Lehigh University; Col. G. Clark '03; General S. D. Parker '91; as guest: Col. H. L. Stimson L. '91 and Professor J. Warren '97.

The committee recommended to the Board of Overseers at its meeting held in the afternoon, the resumption of military instruction and discussed the possibility of giving credit toward a degree, with perhaps a degree "honoris causa," to men who have been in the United States or Allied Service. These matters will be brought to the consideration of the Faculty and to the further attention of the Board of Overseers at its next meeting on Feb. 27.

Although General Wood would not comment on any plans for further military work at the University, he did praise the former R. O. T. C. very highly.

"Of all the young officers," he said, who have come under my observation, those from the Harvard and other college R. O. T. C.'s under the direction of foreign officers, show themselves far superior to the officers trained only in the Government camps. The men who had studied and worked in organizations directly under French or British officers had an inestimable advantage."

General Wood left last night for Camp Funston, Kansas, where he is now in command.
