OFFICERS ASSIGNED TO CORPS

The War Deparement has designated a commandant and three staff officers to be in charge of the University unit of the S. A. T. C. These men have already assumed their duties in Cambridge, and it is expected that a fifth staff officer will be detailed here by the War Deparement in the near future.

Colonel Williams.

Colonel Charles Andrew Williams commandant of the University Corps, entered the service as a West Point cadet in 1870 and has spent his life since then in the Army. As a commissioned officer most of his service has been with the Twenty-First Infantry. The "fortunes of war" have carried him to Alaska, Cuba, and the Philippines, and into most of the northern states of the Union. When a second lieutenant during the campaign in 1877 against Chief Joseph, he was twice wounded in action. Company A of the Twenty-First Infantry was undress's immediate command in the Battle of Sintiago.

Captain Dunham.

Captain Carroll Dunham '10, adjutant of the S. A. T. C. unit at the University, entered military from civil life in July, 1917. He received his A.B. degree at the University in 1910 and the degree of M.A. in 1911. In 1917 he was commissioned captain in the aircraft production department of the Air Service and was on duty in Washington until August, 1918.

Captain Wright.

Captain, Miers F. Wright, Fiftieth Infantry, Regular Army, will act as officer in charge of barracks and discipline. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania in the class of 1912, and was commissioned first lieutenant at the completion of his training at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. He served with the Fiftieth Infantry until May 31, 1918; since then he has been an instructor at Plattsburg Barracks, N. Y. Promoted to his present rank September 6, 1918. Captain Wright was assigned to the University as assistant military instructor.

Lieutenant Heath.

Second Lieutenant J. Andrew Heath, Jr., has been assigned to duty as acting quartermaster and ordnance officer. He was commissioned on November 27, 1917, in the Division of Military Aeronautics of the Air Service. Since then, and until his detachment to the University Corps, he has been serving with aviation recruiting squadrons in Texas and then at Garden City, Long Island. He is from Beach Bluff, Mass., and is 27 years of age.
