The death of Lieutenant K. P. Culbert '17, United States Marines, was reported by general Pershing in his communique for May 24. His death was the result of injuries received by the fall of an airplane in which he was acting as observer. He died during the night following the accident, but on that evening he and the pilot with whom he was flying were decorated with the Croix de Guerre with palm "for excellent, faithful and courageous work in numerous former flights." Their valor in operating in Seicheprey on April 20, under heavy fire and adverse weather conditions was especially mentioned. Culbert was a former editor of the CRIMSON.
