The Freshman baseball team overwhelmed Phillips Andover Academy on Brothers Field, Andover, Saturday afternoon, with a score of 19 runs to 3. Andover's pitchers were pounded hard and the home team fielded loosely. In the first two innings the Freshmen made 13 runs, after which the game was never for a moment in doubt.

C. B. Butterfield, the 1921 pitcher, struck out eight men, while the Andover pitchers, Stevens and Hale, struck out twice that number. Only three bases on balls were given by Butterfield, while 11 bases were given to the Freshman batters. T. J. Meehan, the third baseman, and S. Baldwin, shortstop, each made three runs for the 1921 team. Two runs each were scored by J. Holmes, A. B. Blair, R. B. Shaw and Butterfield, and one run each by J. Baldwin, E. L. Bigelow, M. P. Davis, J. D. Pratt and C. F. Havemeyer.

Two-base hits were made by J. Baldwin, S. Baldwin, Holmes and Blair. Andover was the worst offender in errors, eight being chalked up against her team, as against three for the Freshmen. The former's battery was also unreliable, with a count of two wild pitches, one "hit by pitcher" and three passed balls.   1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  9 r.  h.  e.
