The reopening of the west wing of the Union as reading, lounging and smoking rooms for all members of the University has now been definitely postponed until the latter part of March or the first week in April. Plans were under way last month for the use of the west wing of the Union, but the coal situation has been, and is, of such a nature as to make the reopening of any part of the building inadvisable.
The rooms to be opened downstairs were last year used for reading and writing purposes. It is possible that the billiard and pool tables in the basement will be installed on the first floor, thus adding materially to the various facilities already promised.
On the second floor, the library will be opened. This department of the Union furnishes, in addition to files of current periodicals and all publications connected with the University, many text-books, references and reading books used in the various courses. There is also a large collection of standard literature.
At present the Union is occupied by the University Dining Hall, the Committee of War Records and the H. A. A.
The committee which is in charge of plans for the opening of the west wing is composed of Regent Brandegee, F. E. Parker, Jr., '18, C. Canfield '19, R. E. Gross '19, W. W. McLeod '19 and A. Horween '20.
