UNIVERSITY TO BATTLE TUFTS IN STADIUM

Fast football will be seen tomorrow afternoon in the Stadium when the University service eleven clashes with the Tufts S. A. T. C. gridiron team. All men in the military or naval service of the United States will be admitted free to this contest which will mark the opening of the schedule of the University squad.

On account of the irregularity of practice, the College eleven is only now stepping into its fast stride. Coach Donovan has been giving his players strenuous drilling, however, and expects the team to start off the season with a victory. The Tufts aggregation has been developing rapidly in the last few weeks and because of its wealth of veteran material, expects to carry the pigskin back to Medford.

Despite the handicaps which he had to overcome, the University coach has whipped his men into a formidable team. Players have been unable to practice regularly because of military and academic engagements. It was suggested that the players be allowed to practice football instead of attending one of the drill periods for the remaining few weeks of the football season, but the military officials would not allow it, although the naval leaders had no objection to the plan. For the sake of consistency neither unit gave the players time off and the members of the team had to practice as best they could.

Captain E. J. Daley, intercollegiate end from Dartmouth, will lead the team onto the field. He will play at left tackle where he has been practicing and coaching the squad the last few days. At left guard the only veteran from the informal team of last year, J. S. Coleman, will star. The left side of the line will be completed by G. E. Dennis, interscholastic end from South Boston High School. He is over six feet tall and is scheduled to intercept all the forward passes that the Tufts warriors attempt. F. H. Russo, the burly star from Colby Academy, has been holding down the pivot position since the beginning of the season.

It is still a matter of doubt as to what players will start the game on the other side of the centre. J. F. Brown from Andover Academy, and Maurice Sandler have been showing excellent work in practice at right guard, J. F. McManmon of Exeter has been doing well at right tackle, and Bert Crudup of Rindge and N. N. Levine of Syracuse, have done the best work at right end.

The make-up of the backfield is also undecided as yet. A. J. Conlon of Exeter, and T. W. Bourguignon of Rindge Tech., are contesting for the quarter back. R. N. Porter of Colby Academy and T. J. Murphy of Rindge Tech have lead the candidates for the position at left halfback, while A. G. Fiske of Stoneham High School and Halfback Frazier have survived the tests on the other side of the backfield.

B. A. Hunneman of Noble and Green ough, has been selected to start the game against Tufts. He has been doing fine punting and drop-kicking since the beginning of the season and can plough through the enemy line for long gains.

Tufts has four veterans from last year in Captain Lincoln at right end, Cahoon at right tackle, Enander at left guard and Martin at fullback. Then 'Adams at centre was on the Tuft squad last year, Carlton at right guard comes from Everett High, Otis Galloway is the star left tackle from Colby Academy, Doherty of Newton was the all-interscholastic end, Cleary was the Malden High quarterback. In the backfield, Bob Blair is the old Medford High and Colby Academy star, Fraier comes from Lynn English High, and Fitts is a Hunttington School fullback.

The teams are about even on weight, each line averaging about 160 pounds. The Tufts backfield may be a little heavier but the University backs are fast and will offset the difference
