INFORMALS WIN VICTORY

GROSS OUT OF GAME

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University informal hockey team defeated Brookline High School by a score of 1 to 0 in a close game played on the Charlesbank rink yesterday afternoon. The engagement was played on poor ice covered with a thin coat of snow, which made accurate passing and shooting difficult. Fast work, however, was shown both by the informals and by the Brookline team, and in several instances brilliant hockey was displayed. The school team had a strong defence and offence, but used little team-play. The individual men were expert players, but their attack was broken up in most cases by the heavier skaters of the informals.

A. H. Bright '19 acted as captain for the informals, supplanting, R. E. Gross '19, who is disabled at the Stillman Infirmary from an injury received in the head by a hockey stick while playing in the scrimmage on Thursday afternoon. He suffered a mild case of concussion of the brain, but has recovered considerably since the shock. Whether he will continue as coach of the informals during the rest of the season has not definitely been announced, but it is expected that he will return to the game as soon as possible. Gross' place as left centre was filled by H. F. Gibbs '20 and later by R. Hoffman '19.

Score in First Period.

The only score of the game was made in the first period by E. Cabot '20, at right centre, on a pass from W. W. Rice '18, who carried the puck the whole length of the rink. On the offensive, Bright and Rice played well, and on the defensive the stars were J. Stubbs '20 and W. J. Louderback '20, who made several difficult stops.

The summary of the game is as follows: INFORMALS.  BROOKLINE. Rice, l.w.  r.w., Taylor Gibbs, Hoffman, l.c.  r.c., O'Hearn Cabot, r.c.  l.c., Mahan Bright, r.w.  l.w., Horn Hawkins, c.p.  c.p., Threshle Stubbs, p.  p., Faulkner Louderback, g.  g., Whittemore
