CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED FOR 100,000 DOLLARS

SUPPORT VOLUNTARY

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Under the supervision of a committee of 18 prominent graduates of the University a campaign has been launched to raise the $100,000 which it has been estimated will be required to equip and maintain the University R. O. T. C. at a grade equal to a Federal camp. Although a considerable part of this amount has already been contributed by generous alumni, money is still needed. In the circular letter which has been sent to the graduates of the University the following paragraph briefly sets forth the situation:

Support By Contribution.

"The Harvard Training Camp must be supported entirely by contributions. The United States Government can at this time supply only the necessary rifles. Funds are, therefore, needed to supply each recruit with the standard equipment, of an infantryman. Intrenching tools must be purchased, and all the equipment necessary to a field kitchen equipment, when the Corps is encamped away from the barracks. It is essential that in every detail the facilities afforded at the Harvard camp should equal those afforded at the Federal camps. Also, in order to enable all property qualified men to join the Corps, it will be necessary to pay for the subsistence of a certain number after the time the men are obliged to live in barracks. All men who are financially able to do so will be obliged to pay for their board and will be urged to contribute a sum equal to the cost of their equipment. We must not, however, turn away good men for lack of the necessary funds to pay for their support while at the camp."

The following committee is in charge of the raising of the fund: Robert F. Herrick '90, Chairman, William A. Gaston '80, E. D. Brandegee '81, Walter C. Baylies '84, William S. Thayer '85, William C. Boyden '86, Odin Roberts '86, Charles Francis Adams '88, Thomas W. Slocum '90, W. Cameron Forbes '92, Theodore Lyman '97, Langdon P. Marvin '98, Dwight F. Davis '00, F. L. Higginson, Jr. '00, John W. Hallowell '01, Roger Pierce '04, John W. Cutler '09, and Charles W. Amory '12.
