CATHOLIC CLUB TO GIVE "BELIEVE ME, XANTIPPE"

"Believe Me, Xantippe," the Craig prize play of 1913, will be produced by the St. Paul's Catholic Club in Jordan Hall May 7 at 8 o'clock. Notwithstanding conditions which have arisen since plans for the annual production were first made in January, the committee has decided to go ahead with the play, although several members of the cast are in the R. O. T. C., as the rehearsing has not interfered with the work of the training corps. "Believe Me, Xantippe," the play to be staged this year by the club, was the third Craig prize play and had a long run at the Castle Square Theatre in Boston, and with John Barrymore and Mary Young taking the leading roles, made a record run on Broadway. The play has since toured the country and has proved itself particularly adaptable to amateur and especially college productions, as it abounds in witty lines and amusing situations. The plot revolves around a $30,000 wager that the leading character can elude the police for one year. A phrase "Believe Me, Xantippe," habitually used by the fugitive reveals his identity, and he is arrested but wins the wager on a technicality.

The cast has been coached by P. F. Reniers '16, and only one performance of the play will be given. H. F. Sullivan '17 has general charge of the production and tickets at 50 cents, $1 and $1.50 may be secured at Jordan Hall, the Co-operative Branch, or from T. L. Freeman '19, Fairfax 16.
