PATROL BOAT WORK TAKES MANY FROM CREW PRACTICE

TAYLOR JOINS AVIATION

The University and Freshman crew squads have been hampered during the last few days by the measles epidemic, which has taken several men out of the boats, and by the fact that others have had to report at Newport for work with the patrol squadron. Among these in the former class are D. L. Moody '18, rowing 5 in the first eight, and A. Potter '17 at bow in the same shell. Their places are being taken by N. Brazer '18 and N. Darling '17, respectively. C. Higginson '17 is being temporarily kept out of practice by the patrol squadron, and M. Taylor '17 has quit rowing for the remainder of the year to serve with the Aero Corps. On Saturday so many men of the first Freshman eight were reporting with their units at Newport that the boat was unable to go out for practice.

The three University eights, however, took a snappy row down stream. On the way back there was a short brush between the first and second shells, in which the second had the advantage as far as Harvard Bridge, but in the end the first crew drew ahead. The rowing was not quite as smooth as usual, and the uncertainty of the international situation seems to be having an effect on the men. The seating was as follows:

University A.--Bow, Darling; 2, Whitman; 3, Cabot; 4, Franklin; 5, Brazer; 6, Brown; 7, Coolidge; stroke, White; cox., Cameron.

University B.--Bow, Allen; 2, Young; 3, Fisher; 4, Culbert; 5, Parkman; 6, Pope; 7, Thorndike; stroke, Emmet; cox., Read.

University C.--Bow, Nichols; 2, Hull; 3, Brewer; 4, Freeman; 5, Richardson; 6, Wiggin; 7, Cabot; stroke, Leighton; cox., Derbyshire.

The management has recently shipped two eight-oared shells to Choate School.
