TRACK TEAM APPEARS TO BE AN UNBALANCED AGGREGATION

Lack of Field Candidates Partly Offset By Large Number of Runners Showing Up.

The prospects for the University track team up to date show that it will be somewhat unbalanced; stronger in the track than in the field events. In the short sprints there will be Captain E. A. Teschner '17, who has won first place against Yale in both dashes the last two dual meets. He will bear the brunt of the work, but will be helped out by W. Moore '18 and H. C. Flower '19, who won the 100 and 220-yard events in the 1919 meet with Yale.

In the 440-yard dash W. Willcox, Jr., '17, who has covered the distance in the phenomenal time of 48 seconds flat, will be the mainstay. A. E. Rowse '18, J. Coggeshall '18, F. T. Donahue '18, H. W. Minot '17, J. F. Ryan '19 and W. H. Meanix '19 have all done the quarter in fast time and will do good work in this event. Captain Teschner, who has been running the 440 indoors, may also be used in the quarter in outdoor meets. These men will help to fill the vacancies in the 440 made by the graduation of W. J. Bingham '16, A, Biddle '16 and T. R. Pennypacker '16. In the 880, however, Bingham's loss will be keenly felt. F. T. Donahue '18, J. Coggeshall '18, and C. C. Bassett, Jr., '19, of last year's Freshman team, will probably be called upon to look after the half in the spring. For the longer distances there will be A. R. Bancroft '17, captain of the cross-country team, G. A. King '18, captain of next year's cross-country; R. H. Davison '17, J. Coggeshall '18 and J. D. Hutchinson '19, captain of the 1919 Freshman team, and a runner who has done good work in the mile this winter. These men are effective in both the mile and two mile events.

In the hurdles there will be W. H. Meanix '19, a star performer, M. Noble '17, A. E. Rowse '18 and H. W. Rose '19. Rowse took third place in the 220 low hurdles against Yale last spring, and Meanix has done some clever running in the past for the B. A. A.

In the field events the team is noticeably weak. Lack of strength in this department lost the Yale meet last year, and the graduation of G. G. Haydock '16 has left the pole vault without one good vaulter, and incidentally, the team without a single man who has won his "H" in a field event. The 1919 track squad was also noticeably weak in the hammer-throw, shot put and pole vault, but it has sent men up to the University squad who, with training, should develop into able performers. They are C. A. Clark '19 in the shot put, and A. R. Frey '19 and A. Perkins '19, in the high jump. W. H. Wheeler, Jr., '18 is another shot putter of promise. In the broad jump last year H. C. Flower, Jr., '19 was a consistent worker, and with H. Davis '18 a skillful pair will probably be developed.

So that although the track team has lost all but five of the 13 men who won their "H" last year, the outlook is by no means unpromising.
