Thirty-nine men have responded to Coach Duffy's call for University fielding candidates. This is 17 more than reported last year. Besides Captain Abbot, the "H" men who turned out were J. Knowles '18, an outfielder; H. S. Bothfeld '17, who was the regular shortstop last year, and C. S. Reed '17, an infielder. These men with R. Harte '17, the regular catcher, will form a nucleus for the team that meets the Braves in the first game on April 10.
A welcome addition to the squad yesterday was T. H. Enwright '19, who, being just reinstated at the Office, reported for the first time. He warmed up at first base, but Coach Duffy may later shift him to third.
Practice yesterday consisted mainly of batting and fielding. The squad was lined up and grounders were hit to them from the other end of the cage. Until the weather is milder and the men are able to practice outdoors, Coach Duffy intends to emphasize the work in fielding, principally in handling grounders. The entire squad will soon be divided into four divisions with regard to ability so that the most efficient use may be made of the limited space in the cage, and the men may receive the maximum amount of coaching.
