8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
To the Editors of the CRIMSON:
Do you favor military preparedness?
Of course you do, and so you will approve of military training for that purpose. That means "in time of peace prepare for war" and thus get your kick in first.
There is nothing so bad for a country as war and what follows it. We learned that lesson in the Civil War. The enemy got ahead of us there. Do not let us repeat the mistake.
We are all pacifists, but we are not after the peace that is made only on paper. We want the kind of peace that will last and that kind needs force behind it, Military training creates that force and the Harvard gentlemen who have gone to Washington to urge this upon the authorities are doing a patriotic thing. That Harvard should lead is eminently proper and to be expected. CHARLES L. PEIRSON '59, Brevet Brigadier-General.
