RELAY TEAM TOOK RACE

In the Naval Militia games held in the Connecticut State Amory at Hartford, Conn., Wednesday night, the University short distance relay team defeated the team from Holy Cross with little difficulty. Their time of four minutes 33 2-5 seconds was the fastest of the evening, bettering that of Dartmouth in a similar event by three seconds.

Captain E. A. Teschner '17 lost the pole on the toss and slipped in starting, but in spite of this handicap almost beat Doyle of Holy Cross to the corner. For the rest of the first lap Teschner ran close behind his man, forging ahead on the back lap of the second and giving over to W. H. Meanix '19 a lead of three yards. Meanix maintained this distance for the full quarter, and H. W. Minot '17, running a beautiful race, lengthened the lead to 25 yards. Although Kelley, the Holy Cross anchor man, made a desperate effort to close up this distance, W. Willcox '17 finished easily ten yards in the lead.

In the mile run J. D. Hutchinson '19 placed third, in a good field, finishing behind Captain Overton and Read of Yale.

A. E. Rowse '18, the University entry in the 300-yard dash, did not get started well and was unable to place. "Pooch" Donovan had intended to enter the men on the relay team in other events on the program, but not knowing the strength of the Holy Cross runners, decided to keep them fresh for that event.
