More than 1,000 members of the University have been enrolled in the Red Cross by the undergraduate campaign this week, according to advance reports from the committee in charge of the drive. Definite figures on the number of memberships secured from the College and the Graduate Schools have not yet been compiled, since the reports of all the workers have not been turned in. According to R. E. Gross '19, chairman of the committee, the number of memberships already reported warrants the statement that over 1,000 students are now members of the organization. "Everyone who is approached now," he stated in summing up the work of the committee, "is able to show his 1918 Red Cross button. Almost every student in the University has paid his dollar membership fee, either--through the committee or in some other way."
The increased membership drive in the University has been a part of the nation-wide campaign to enroll ten million new members before Christmas Eve. Reports from Washington as to the outcome of the attempt are very favorable, indicating that mobilized Red Cross workers are obtaining heavy enrollments in every section of the country. New England's quota, however, of one million new members is being reached very slowly.
