FRESHMEN WON SOCCER CONTEST

Closing the 1917 soccer season with a victory, the Freshman eleven defeated a team of Chinese students from the University and Technology by a score of 4 to 0 on Soldiers Field Saturday afternoon. It was the fourth game and the first victory for the 1921 players this year. The play of the eleven was considerably improved, and the Chinese were unable effectively to prevent the scoring.

The game was fast, despite the fact that the field was covered with snow and ice, which caused many falls. Everyone of the four goals was scored in the second half, and each one was kicked from some distance, crossing the line because the Chinese goal was unable to keep his feet and prevent it. W. L. Pyle '21, at right halfback, was the star of the Freshman aggregation, while W. L. Cummings '21, at goal, and G. N. Carpenter '21 also played well.
