PUSHING THROUGH FLANDERS.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The latest push of the Allied arms against the German lines is chronicled as the greatest victory in this war, in which all victories have been rather a negation of defeat than success. Some men may be led to the early belief that the power of the enemy is crumbling, and that our gathering armies may not be in at the final dissolution.

The power of the enemy is not crumbling. It will be smashed, but only with hammer blows. The most adventurous of our young men will get enough of adventure, and the most warlike enough of war, before Germany is driven into her own house with the door closed and locked against her breaking forth.

We should be pleased with success upon an eight mile front. But this is not an eight mile war. We will not jubilate over victory nor be disheartened by reverses, until the full completion of our purpose as a nation, and the accomplishment of the appointed ends.
