To the Editors of the Crimson:--
I wish when you come to publishing any news or comments on the experiments that the Edison Company are trying at Soldiers Field for lighting the Stadium gridiron, that you would correct a false impression which the articles in the newspapers have given, that the purpose of this lighting, if installed, is to have evening practice in addition to the practice we already have.
This misunderstanding has already caused unfavorable comment from many graduates, and I assume a great many members of the faculty would look still more askance at such a plan.
The real purpose of this lighting, if it is done at all, is to enable the football work to be done later in the afternoon on the days when the darkness comes on early, with the idea not in any way to increase the amount of work given to the players, but to advance it to a later hour, especially in November, and thus cause less interference with the afternoon lectures and laboratory work of the players.
I trust you will make this very clear in anything you may write on the subject. Very truly yours, F. W. MOORE, '93.
