The Library Committee of the Harvard Club of Boston is endeavoring to assemble a collection of books on military science. The following books have already been installed: "Manual of Military Training," by Jas. A. Moss; "Self-Helps for the Citizen Soldier," by Jas. A. Moss and M. B. Stewart; "Fundamentals of Military Service," by Lincoln C. Andrews; "Technique of Modern Tactics," by P. S. Bond and M. J. McDonough; "Military Primer," by George S. Simonds and Francis C. Marshall; "Studies in Minor Tactics, 1915," "Military Sketching and Map Reading," by Loren C. Grieves. "Field Service Regulations, U. S. Army." Paymaster D. G. McRitchie, U. S. N., has presented two copies of "The Bluejackets' Manual, U. S. N., 1915," which have been added to the collection.
G. H. Norcross '75 has presented a set of the works of Charles Sumner in 15 volumes, and the following books by Harvard graduates have been presented by the authors: "Address to the Loyal Legion," by H. M. Rogers '62; "List of Angling Book Plates," by D. B. Fearing '82; "Dramatic Index for 1915," by F. W. Faxon '89; "The Greater Tragedy," by B. A. Gould '91; and "Struck by Lightning," by Burton Kline '06.
The club has been fortunate in securing a set of photographs of the members of the class of 1852. This is the most important addition as yet made as a part of the club's program of building up a complete collection of class albums and photographs. The set in question is made up of photographs, all under one glass, of daguerreotypes, which were taken at the time of graduation. So far as is known, this is the first attempt to reproduce a set of class pictures, of so early a date, in a single group. The contributors for this '52 picture have been numerous, including not only the six surviving members, but many others who are related to former members of the class.
Another valuable gift is that of the "Med. Fac." catalogue for 1833, presented by Edward T. Fisher '56. The "Med. Fac." issued only five catalogues: the club now possesses all of these--something which can be claimed by but few institutions or individuals.
Lynde Sullivan '88 has presented a student bond which was filed on entrance to Harvard College in 1848.
G. S. Dexter '08 has loaned a copy of the New York Morning Post for November 7, 1783, containing "Washington's Farewell Orders to the Army."
D. M. Matteson, p. '96, has presented a collection of programs and tickets for Class Day and other Harvard affairs.
