TUFTS HAS ENVIABLE RECORD

MEETS THE UNIVERSITY NINE TOMORROW WITH ONE DEFEAT RECORDED.

Rain caused the cancellation of Saturday's baseball game with Pennsylvania, and, as the Quakers were unable to stay over to play today, the season's record between the two nines will stand with one victory for the University and none for the Red and Blue.

Tomorrow will see what is regarded as one of the hardest contests of the season, the game with Tufts. The Medford aggregation is the heaviest hitting college combination of the season and the best team that Tufts has turned out for years. Up to date the visitors have lost but one game, while the University has been forced to accept three defeats.

Captain Stafford's hitting, combined with his speed on the bases, is liable to make him the big stumbling block to the University players in tomorrow's contest. He leads all of the college run-getters with a total of 27, while his record of 22 stolen bases gives him the right to be considered the fastest base-runner in college baseball. His work around first base has proved no less notable, for he has made but five errors out of 83 chances.

On paper Tufts has a much heavier hitting combination than Coach Mitchell has yet produced. Both Captain Stafford and Leland, who plays right field, are hitting above the 400 mark, while five more of the regulars have averages of 350. The University list shows but four men better than 300, with Mahan the only man on the team capable of reaching the 350 mark.
