The University golf team defeated the Rhode Island Country Club by a score of 4 matches to 3 over an 18-hole course at Providence Saturday afternoon. The scores, as a whole, were poor, due to the softness of the course resulting from recent rains. Four of the matches, however, were extremely close, the scores being 1 up. In the feature match of the day Captain J. G. Heyburn '16 defeated H. E. Kenworth, the Rhode Island state champion.
The scores follow: J. G. Heyburn '16 defeated H. E. Kenworth, 1 up; D. Fairchild defeated J. W. Hubbell '17, 1 up; N. S. Campbell defeated L. H. Canan '17. 4 and 3; F. I. Amory '17 defeated J. S. Gammons, 1 up; W. A. Flagg '19 defeated R. D. Rookes, 1 up; B. M. Smith defeated W. P. Hunt '16, 2 and 1; L. M. Lombard '17 defeated J. Linton, 4 and 3.
