The continuation and success of military drill at Harvard will depend to a great extent on the showing of the Regiment on tomorrow's hike. Captain S. G. Bayard Schindel, of the General Staff, U. S. Army, has been specially detailed to inspect the Harvard Regiment and report to the War Department as to the practicability of stationing a regular officer in Cambridge next year.
If some three or four hundred men turn out, Captain Schindel will advise the detailing of perhaps one commissioned officer, whereas with a showing of nine hundred the chances of obtaining two commissioned officers and several non-commissioned officers will be good. As has been reiterated so many times, every commendable performance brings the possibility of well-organized military drill next year one step nearer realization.
Everyone feels sincerely grateful to Captain Cordier, who has given up practically his entire time to the work of the Regiment. Each individual can show this appreciation in no better way than by being in his place at roll call tomorrow.
