The CRIMSON will hold its straw ballot Presidential election from 8.30 o'clock this morning until 8 o'clock this evening. Ballot boxes have been placed in both Memorial Hall and the CRIMSON Building, Plympton street. The election is open to all members of the University, including graduate as well as undergraduate students. Twelve candidates have been selected for the election, including the most widely mentioned candidates throughout the country. But because someone may wish to cast his vote for a candidate other than for one of those whose names are on the ballot, a blank space has been left at the foot of the ballot. All votes must be signed or they will be cancelled.
Since the majority of party nominees have not yet been decided upon, the parties with which the candidates are affiliated will not be designated upon the ballot. This will make the election a choice of an individual rather than a party election.
The thirteen candidates whose names will appear upon the ballot are as follows: Allan L. Benson, of New York, Socialist nominee; William Jennings Bryan; Albert B. Cummins, Senator from Iowa; Charles Warren Fairbanks, of Indiana, ex-Vice-President; Henry Ford, of Michigan; Charles E. Hughes, of Washington, D. C., Justice of the Supreme Court; Samuel W. McCall, Governor of Massachusetts; Theodore Roosevelt '80; Elithu Root, ex-Senator from New York; Lawrence Y. Sherman, Senator from Illinois; John W. Weeks, Senator from Massachusetts; and Woodrow Wilson.
