NORTHFIELD PROGRAM COMPLETED

Seven Speakers Chosen for 1916 Religious Conference.

The annual student conference at Northfield this year will be held from June 23 to July 2, and the work will be similar to the conferences of former years, with the main object of inspiring and training undergraduates and graduates to lead the voluntary Christian forces of the American universities and colleges.

An unusual number of able speakers has been secured to address the 1916 conference. Bishop Charles Henry Brent, who has recently returned from remarkable work in the Philippine Islands, will discuss the call to the service of the church. John R. Mott has been engaged for the past two years in supervising a ministry to aid the soldiers and prisoners of Europe, and he will have much to tell of his work abroad. Sherwood Eddy, general secretary of the Y. M. C. A. in Asia, has just completed a tour of evangelism through India, and his experiences there will furnish him with very interesting material for discussion. Dean Charles R. Brown, of the Yale School of Religion, will make four addresses on the question of a vital and rational faith. Fletcher S. Brockman, former secretary of the Y. M. C. A. in China, and Robert E. Speer will also speak of certain phases of Christian service. Harry Emerson Fosdick, author of various religious books, will again be present to appeal to college men, with whom he has so successfully co-operated.

The sessions of the conference will be devoted toward the study of the spread of Christianity, in connection with which many new courses have been arranged, the study of the Bible, Christian leadership and personal work, vocational discussions, and personal interviews with the men present. There will be six special gatherings this year. A preparatory school conference will be held from June 26 to July 2, with a program similar to that of former years. Henry Hobson, Yale 1914, will be in charge of the conference. In connection with this latter undertaking, a conference of masters will be held to assist in the work. The faculty conference of men from all colleges will be held on June 26-28.

Charles D. Hurrey, secretary of the Committee for Promoting Friendly Relations, will be in charge of the conferences of foreign students, and separate sessions have been arranged for men from China, Japan, India, and Latin-America. A conference of theological students will also be held, and lastly denominational meetings, at which time the different churches will have an opportunity to get in touch with the strongest men of their denominations in New England colleges.

As usual there will be the attractive athletic opportunities of baseball, tennis, and track games, all of these being supervised by men able in college sports.
