CIRCOLO STAGES FIRST PLAY

"Chi Lascia la Via Vecchia per la Nuova sa quel che Lascia e non sa quel che Trova," the first play ever put on a stage by the Circolo Italiano, will be presented in Brattle Hall this evening at 8 o'clock. The play is a three-act comedy by Giuseppe Giacosa, one of the best-known Italian dramatists of the day. The title of the comedy is a proverb, which means that he who leaves the old for the new knows what he leaves behind and does not know what he is to find.

All proceeds of the production will go to the Italian Red Cross. Tickets at $1 and at 50 cents may be obtained from officers of the Circolo Italiano di Harvard, the Boston Circolo Italiano, and the Circolo Italo Americano of Boston. Members of the University are offered a 25-cent reduction on $1 tickets. Girls from the Circolo Italo Americano of Boston will take the feminine roles in the play. Coaching the actors is Dr. Giorgio La Piana, of the University of Palermo.

The story is woven about the lives of a husband and wife. The man is studious, shabby, caring nothing for appearances. On the contrary, his wife has a passion for society, and she succeeds through the overpowering strength of this passion in leading her man to a new mode of living. The latter unfortunately is too well received by society. He makes so good an impression that he is sought after by a married woman who is estranged from her husband. There-upon the wife becomes jealous, and finally repents that she has turned her husband into one corner of the eternal triangle. She begs him to return to his old habits of life, but to her consternation he informs her that he is now satisfied to dress and appear well, yet declares that he will spend his evenings with her as formerly.
