AVIATORS HONORED BY FRANCE

E. C. Cowdin Awarded French Medaille Militaire for Bravery.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Elliot Christopher Cowdin, a student in the University in 1906-1907, has been awarded the French medaille militaire, states an Associated Press cablegram from Paris. Cowdin was also cited for the second time in army orders for his brilliant aviation exploits as a member of the American Flying Corps. The citation says of Cowdin, who is now a first sergeant:

"He engaged voluntarily for the duration of the war, and has shown remarkable bravery, dash, and devotion. He defeated an enemy aeroplane in the recent operations, and has attacked twelve hostile machines, of which he destroyed one."

Norman Prince '08 has also been honored with another official citation by the French, it was stated at the home of his uncle, Dr. Morton Prince '75, in Boston, last evening. Prince has been a colleague of Cowdin's in the corps, and at one time they operated in company the same armored Nieuport machine. This latest citation, the news of which was just received by Dr. Prince, was caused by two articles on military aviation which were printed in the United States, and whose influence was considered valuable to the Allied cause.
