UNIVERSITY WILL MEET BATES

STRONG MAINE TEAM TO OPPOSE NINE AT SOLDIERS FIELD THIS AFTERNOON.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University baseball team will meet Bates on Soldiers Field this afternoon at 4 o'clock in the second game of the season on the home grounds. Last year Bates defeated the University by the score of 3 to 2. The team from Maine has won both of the games played this year. Bowdoin was beaten 9 to 3, and in an exhibition game on April 19 the fastest semi-professional ball team in Maine was defeated 7 to 4. The three veterans of last year's nine will be seen in the same positions which they played last year: Duncan at second, McDonald at shortstop, and Lord at catch.

Coach Mitchell will put on the field his strongest line-up. He will probably pick Whitney to start in the box.

The batting orders are as follows: HARVARD.  BATES. Coolidge, c.f.  2b., Duncan Nash, 1b.  3b., Logan Knowles, l.f.  s.s., McDonald Harte, c.  c., Lord Abbot, 2b.  r.f., Davidson Percy, r.f.  1b., Harvey Beal, 3b.  c.f., Davis Reed, s.s.  l.f., Marsden Whitney or Garritt, p.  p., Purvere
