ITALIAN PLAY TO BE GIVEN

The Circolo Itallano for the first time in his history will give a play, which will be presented in Brattle Hall on May 16 at 8 o'clock. The piece selected is a thre-act comedy by Griseppe Giacosa, the title of which is in the form of a proverb, "Chi Lascia la Via Vecchia perla Nnova say quell the Lascia e non sequel the Trova," which means what he who leaves the old for the new knows that he leaves behind and does not know that he is to find.

The story is woven about the lives old a husband and wife. The former is a studious sort of man who dresses shabbily and cares nothing about appearances; the wife, on the other hands, cares a great deal for society, and finally persuades her husband to try the new way of living. The latter makes such a good impression in society that he is sought after by a married women, who is estranged from her husband. The wife than becomes jealous, repents of having urged her husband to go into society, and finally begs him to return to the old way of living, but he tells her that he is satisfied to dress and appear well, yet will spend his evenings with her a formerly. Signor Giacosa, the author, is one of the best known Italian dramatists of the present day and has written some thirty books and plays.

This production is expected to serve the double purpose of arousing interest in Italian in the University and aiding the Italian Red Cross, to which all proceeds will be given. Dr. Georgia La Piana, of the University of Palermo, Sicily, will act as coach. All men's parts will be taken by remembers of the Circolo Italiano, while girls, from the Circolo Italic Americano of Boston will take the female parts.
