Yale won the first meet of the New England Intercollegiate Wrestling Association held in the Hemenway Gymnasium last Saturday. Four firsts in the finals out of seven events went to the Blue, and this was enough to give more than a comfortable lead.
The meet was run on a point system, varying in the preliminaries, semi-finals, and final rounds. The final standing of the teams was as follows: Weatherhead Lost by Decision. Only two of the University's team reached the finish, these being E. L. Davison '17 in the 125-pound class and R. C. Cooke '18 in the 158-pound class, but both of these were beaten by their opponents. Captain A. J. Weatherhead ocC. put up a splendid fight against R. Smith of Yale in the semi-finals of the 175-pound class, Smith getting a decision after an extra round. In the finals of the 115-pound class Captain Loo of Technology succeeded in getting a decision from W. Fowler of Yale only after two extra periods. The summary of final events follows: 115-pound class.--Captain P. Y. Loo (Technology) secured a decision from W. Fowler (Yale). 125-pound class.--F. E. Bretschneider (Springfield) secured a fall from E. F. Davison '17. 135-pound class.--Kreider (Yale) secured a decision from L. A. Hoffman (Technology). 145-pound class.--Bennett (Yale) secured a decision from H. G. Morse (Technology). 158-pound class.--Potter (Yale) secured a fall from R. C. Cooke '18. 175-pound class.--Adams (Bates) secured a fall from Smith (Yale). Heavyweight class.--Captain Bartlett (Yale) secured a fall from A. C. Bartlett (Springfield).
