About 20 candidates for the mile and two-mile reported yesterday for first spring practice. Owing to the fact that the cinder track is still unfit for use, a short work-out was held on the gravel in front of the Stadium. Regular spring practice is already one week behind last year's schedule.
From now on all candidates for the track team will report to Coach Donovan at Soldiers Field at some time between 2 and 5 o'clock every afternoon. Spring track practice has been delayed this year in common with crew and baseball work, by the late spring, but the thaw of yesterday and the day before has taken the snow off the ground so that work can now be commenced.
It is now possible for candidates for the hammer and shot to use the wooden platform between the Stadium and the baseball stands, and Mr. Clark will be there daily from 3 o'clock until 5.
The jumpers and pole vaulters will continue for the present to work out in the Cage on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 until 6 o'clock.
