The rifles ordered for the Regiment will be used for the first time by Companies A and B in their drill tonight. Company A will report at the Armory, Persis Smith Hall, to receive rifles before going to the Cage; after drill the rifles will be given to the members of Company B, who will also use them, and then return them to the Armory.
Only 700 of the 1050 rifles stored in the basement of Smith Halls have as yet been unpacked, but the others will be uncrated and cleaned as quickly as possible. More men are needed to carry out this work, and volunteers should report at Regimental Headquarters.
The 40,000 rounds of cartridges, which came with the rest of the equipment, have been sent to the target range in Wakefield.
