To the Editors of the CRIMSON:--

The advent of the Harvard Regiment has made the need of a student band more pressing. In the first place, it will be of great value in drilling and on special occasions, such as the parade on Memorial Day. In the second place, it would cut down expenses at mass meetings, football games, and other similar gatherings. Furthermore, a band composed of undergraduates will tend to give a feeling of solidarity to our cheering section.

Some seem to think that such an innovation would be too decided a departure from undergraduate traditions. However, thoughtful consideration shows that the arguments in favor of the student band outweigh this criticism.

Obviously, the success of such a band depends not only on the support of those musically inclined, but on the whole undergraduate body. R. N. WILLIAMS, 2nd, '16.
