The University fielding and battery candidates had a long hard work-out under Coach Mitchell's direction in the Baseball Cage yesterday afternoon. The men are now divided into two squads, which report for practice daily, each squad spending about an hour and three-quarters a day in the Cage. Yesterday, Coach Mitchell first gave the men a long turn at batting practice and then set them to work in pairs for practice in passing the ball. This was succeeded by fielding grounders and throwing to bases. A number of exceptionally clever stops were made, while the fielding of the ball was on the whole very clean.
