The Freshman hockey team suffered its first defeat in a regular scheduled game when it lost to the St. Paul's School seven by the score of 2 to 0 on the latter's rink Saturday afternoon. The game was played in a snow storm which necessitated three ten-minute periods of play in order to keep the rink cleared and which caused unusually slow playing.
Bishop was the individual star for the Freshmen, making twelve very difficult stops and keeping the scoring against his team within moderate bounds. Captain Kissel also showed up well. For St. Paul's, Captain Conover and Walton did the most brilliant playing, the latter scoring the first goal and the former making a spectacular dash the whole length of the rink and scoring the second point unassisted.
The scoring began in the second period after 7 minutes of play when Walton of St. Paul's, entirely uncovered before the 1919 goal, received the puck on a pass from Robinson, from behind the Freshman goal, and shot it into the net. This wing formation, which resulted in the first tally by Walton, was used several times to good advantage by the St. Paul's team. The second score came after three minutes of play in the third period when Captain Conover, taking the disc from behind his own goal, wormed his way through the entire Freshman team for the final count.
The teams lined up as follows: Score--Freshmen 0, St. Paul's 2. Goals Walton, Captain Conover. Stops--Van Buren 9, Bishop 12. Referee--Mr. Milne. Timer--Mr. Scudder. Goal judges--Clark and Bond. Time--Three 10-min. periods.
