In its first meet of the season the University swimming team will face the strong Worcester Academy team in the latter's new tank at Worcester this afternoon at 4.30 o'clock. The University team has developed slowly this year owing to the lack of satisfactory facilities for practice and to irregular coaching in the early weeks of training. When a regular coach was secured in Ben James of the Brookline Swimming Club, prospects became brighter, and in the last few weeks the team has showed marked improvement.
Individually, the team is strong in the 100-yard and 220-yard swims with Captain B. M. Fullerton '16 and H. Wentworth '17, and in the diving with M. Blanchard '18, the amateur champion of New England. J. A. Machado '17, J. W. D. Seymour '17, and W. L. Monro '16, judging by their work in trials, should place well in the meet this afternoon. As A. Dixon '16, the University's first-string plunger, is ill, W. L. Monro '16 will be the University's only entry in the plunge for distance.
The team, accompanied by Manager R. A. Whiting '16, will leave the Square at 12.30 for the South Station. The entries this afternoon will be as follows:
Relay.--Captain B. M. Fullerton '16, J. A. Machado '17, J. W. D. Seymour '17, H. Wentworth '17.
50-yard dash.--J. A. Machado '17, J. W. D. Seymour '17.
100-yard swim.--B. M. Fullerton '16, H. Wentworth '17.
220-yard swim.--B. M. Fullerton '16, H. Wentworth '17.
Diving.--M. Blanchard '18, W. L. Monro '16.
Plunge.--W. L. Monro '16.
