In the semi-final round of the elimination competition between the third-year law Club of the Ames Prize the Lowell Club was given a decision over the George Gray Club and the Witanagamot Club won from the Kent Club. These two winning clubs are the survivors of the contest which has continued through the fall between the seven winning clubs of the second year competition last winter. The George Gray, Kent, Lowell, Warren, Williston and Witanagamot clubs were those which began the elimination contest early in October.
Previous to the semi-final round, six of the clubs competed in a preliminary round, the three winners together with the seventh, which drew a bye, entering the second period. This left the Lowell, George Gray, Witanagamot and Kent clubs to compete in the semi-final contest won by the Lowell and Witanagamot clubs. The Ames Prize is awarded in two prizes of $200 and $100 to the winner and runner-up respectively in the final round of the third-year competition.
The eight clubs leading the second-year competition at the end of the fourth round are opposed as follows for the fifth round: Beale vs. Choate; Lowell vs. Wyman; Witanagamot vs. Warren; and George Gray vs. Thayer. According to the new system adopted this year the four winning clubs in this round will be retained to compete in the third year competition for the prize next year. The facts for the fifth round of the second year competition were out on November 28, and the briefs were due yesterday. Each of the eight clubs in this round will present their final arguments next Monday and following evening, the hearings commencing at 7.15 o'clock.
Last year Kent won the final round of the third year competition from Marshall.
