MASS MEETING TONIGHT

CANER OUT ON FIELD

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The first football mass meeting of the year will be held in the Living Room of the Union tonight at 7.15 o'clock. This will be the first chance the undergraduates have had to practice organized cheering in preparation for the regular cheering sections to be started during tomorrow's game. R. M. Cook '17 will lead the singing of the football songs for which the Regimental Band will furnish the music as it also will between the halves of the games. The meeting will be addressed by H. R. Hardwick '15, assistant coach.

Short Scrimmage for Team.

The University team had a short, stiff scrimmage yesterday afternoon followed by a ten-minute workout against the second team. In neither scrimmage was there a score made, but the second team was often hard pressed and there was a frequent exchange of punts. There were no long runs or spectacular plays, but straight, hard football was in order for the day.

G. C. Caner '17 was on the field today but will probably not start against Cornell tomorrow because of his injured leg which is not yet wholly well. D. Duncan '17, a substitute guard last year, reported for practice for the first time this year, having recently returned from the border. T. J. Coolidge, 3d, '15, who ran 98 yards for a touchdown against Yale in 1914, was on the field helping to coach the ends.

The Cornell team will arrive in Boston this morning and will practice in the Stadium early this afternoon. The team has had a very successful early season, winning all three of its games against Syracuse, Williams and Bucknell without being scored upon. The team is without the stars of the last year, Barrett and Shelton, but in Shiverick has one of the best punters and at the same time one of the best quarterbacks in the game. Captain Mueller, who plays fullback, is a veteran of three years' experience on the first squad, but the other two backs, Hoffman and Benedict, are new in the line-up as regulars. Ryerson and Zander at the end positions are good men, but cannot fill those places as did Shelton and Eckley. Brown is at centre, filling the place left vacant by the graduation of Cool. The remainder of the team are veterans of last year's championship eleven. The line will be difficult for the University to penetrate, but the backs should not prove as dangerous as those of Barrett's team.
