NEW RED CROSS CANVASS

COMMITTEE REORGANIZED

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A second campaign has been instituted by the University branch of the Greater Boston Chapter of the American Red Cross to raise its enrolment in the University to at least a thousand members. To this end a new University Enrolment Committee has been appointed to canvass for members, and the final date for enrolment in the University branch has been extended to November 25. The membership of the committee follows:

Captain Cordier, chairman; Professor W. E. Hocking, Faculty member; J. Coolidge '17, secretary-treasurer; W. H. Meeker '17, E. A. Whitney '17, J. D. Williams '17, J. R. Bush '18, R. J. H. Powell, Jr., '18, J. S. Taylor '18, L. Chauvenet '18, F. W. Hatch '19, W. K. McKittrick '19, C. W. Lippitt '20, L. B. Sanderson '20, O. C. Wood '20.

So far not more than $50 has been collected as a contribution from the University. In the Red Cross collections held among colleges throughout the country, the University ranks among the last.

Local Enrolment Closes Nov. 25.

The membership fee for one year in the American Red Cross is one dollar. Enrolment may be made and membership fees paid at the CRIMSON Building or in Weld 3 at any time before Satur- day, November 25. After that day, however, no further applications will be received for membership in the University branch. All applications thereafter must be made through the Boston office, located at 42 Water street. Membership in the American Red Cross does not require any active service, but members will be kept in touch with the work of the organization through the society's annual and special pamphlets, which will, from time to time, be sent to them.

Support all Voluntary.

The President of the United States is honorary head of the American Red Cross and although the organization is incorporated under an act of Congress and authorized by the government to aid our land and naval forces in time of war, it is supported entirely by voluntary contributions. The scope of the work, however, is not confined to hospital and field work in time of battle. The efficient relief corps of the organization are always ready to assist in preventing the suffering incident to sudden catastrophies. Prompt and practical relief has been rendered in more than 80 disasters during the last ten years, and much good work has been done in preventing disease and instituting educational movements. During its existence the American Red Cross has received and spent more than $10,000,000, in addition to distributing supplies valued at $5,000,000
