ANDOVER'S PASSES BEAT 1920

AFTER SPLENDID START FRESHMEN DROPPED EXCITING GAME TO ACADEMY.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In a game marked by brilliant forward passing the Freshman eleven was defeated by Andover Saturday by a 10-to-7 score. Although the Freshmen started off confidentially and scored a touchdown by powerful line bucking within the first eight minutes of play, Andover's later-season perfection of the forward pass proved too much for the 1920 defense. The game was a clean one, and few penalties were imposed.

The Freshman score was made in the early part of the first period, when H. L. Whitney recovered the ball on Andover's 25-yard line and A. Horween went over for a touchdown. M. Hadley kicked the goal.

In the second period Andover surprised the Freshmen with brilliant forward passing and gained seven points by a pass over the goal line from Larkin to Hill and a goal by Crane. The last quarter started off well for the Freshmen, who made several long gains, but the ball was lost on a fumble and from that time on the playing was almost entirely in 1920's territory. Andover advanced the ball to the Freshmen's 20-yard line and a goal from the field by Crane broke the tie in Andover's favor.

A. Horween, fullback, and W. H. Cheney, tackle, played the most consistent game for the Freshmen, while Stover, Andover's shifty right halfback, starred for the Academy. The summary:
